This shows what Kate Harper is capable of. She created two characters and a plot that are quite engaging. Taken a part, this reads like an exciting introduction, one incredible scene and a lovely ending. If only all of this were part of a novel, and not one incredibly short thirty minute story.I found the characters, although given the length of the story not quite developed, to be delightful. Abbey's ruin made you wonder of you missed something along the way until you realise that it's already 85% of the story and it is very short. The chase that Abbey leads Hanwood on is marvelously enjoyable. I loved it when he simply throws her over his shoulder and leaves with her. The idea behind the story is interesting and would have made for one exciting novel.
Harper is such a tease in this story and leaves the reader wanting more of Hanwood and Abbey. But as short as it was, the attraction between these two is palpable and exciting. Too short, but oh so sweet.

The Rake Midnight Lady A Short Regency Story Risque Regency Book 2 edition by Kate Harper Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Delightful, unexpected, sweet. If ever you want to read a short, funny, exciting, lovely romance, this is it. Different than the typical regency story so you won't be bored.
I have found in the last two months , that there is many new books that are hard to put down. I have found that I am not getting the sleep I use to. These books are wonderful . Great authors out there. PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING.This is so much wonderful fun.

I read this quite awhile ago and these little epics tend to be ephemeral. However, I do remember that this author has an out of the ordinary style. She uses more space for description and observation than most and if you have been reading Regencies for 50 years like I have done, anything unique welcome.
I enjoyed this short novella. It is an easy read. The characters were interesting and the story had surprises. It is about Miss Abigail Margate and Lord Harwood, Earl of Huntingdon. He discovers Abigail after she has broken into his study, thus the story begins. I highly recommend this book.
While I would have enjoyed this being longer, I did thoroughly appreciated the short story for all its charm, while knowing the social morals of the day they chose to give in to their feelings for each other, our heroine out to getting the letters back to her friend that were now in the possession of his lordship and neither of two playing games with each other.

I expected this to be more in line with the previous story I read, where the characters were more acquainted and not quite so moved to jump in each other's pants. this was also a VERY short story. Once I realized how short, I understood the crazy fast pacing. Given the time constraints, I thought it was an OK story, though we only get a hint at what the charters could feel for each other once they get to know them. They seem to recognize good traits in each other, but necessarily what that means about that person as a whole. Not something I would want to base a marriage on, but certain a romp in a dark manor house, yes please!
I am giving it 4 stars instead of 3 because the story was so short. And for that, it was quite sweet and sexy, and the hints we did get about the characters motives did make them seem kind, good people who would at least do well together.
Really like Kate Harper's books, her heroines are usually feisty women dealing with unusual or unexpected situations and the hero is always a wickedly handsome man, quite often a rake. Perfect scenario fro a romance. Set in the Regency period, I like that each one has a plot to anchor it. This book is about a young woman, Abbey, who breaks into the home of one of the ton, a Lord Hanwood, intent on retrieving some letters. I enjoy the way Abbey's irreverent behaviour causes Hanwood to stop and think about his choices. A great read!
